cooking on a campfire

No meal tastes better than one you have prepared while camping, after a long walk in the nature or a good swim. Camp cooking may seem complicated, but it’s not. What makes it look like big fuss is the fact you need to remember to take all the necessary ingredients and tools with you and to make sure you have clean hands. With a few tips and preparing some simple but tasty recipes, you too can impress your friends and family.

  • In most cases, you will be using fire, so don’t forget the box of matches and the lighter fluid. You don’t need too much cooking equipment. Take with you a large pot, a pan, a grate, spatula, tongs, aluminium foil, knives and enough disposable dishes and cutlery for everyone. Paper towels are another item that should not miss from your camping supplies.
  • Apart from what you will cook on the site, there are some dishes you can take with you from home and even warm them again on the fire.
  • Take a cooler or a camping fridge with you if you will be spending more than a few hours camping. You don’t want your food to get spoiled. A camping stove is another useful item that will help you cook easier and faster.
  • Prepare your ingredients and spices from home to save time and to organize things better.
  • Don’t forget about hygiene either. Bring with you a hand sanitizer and dish soap, preferably eco-friendly.
  • Freeze the meat before you put in the cooler if you want to keep it longer.
  • Cover pots if you want your food to be ready sooner and to avoid any insects or dirt from contaminating your food.
  • Choose block ice instead of ice cubes because it will last longer.
  • Keep the food away or hang it somewhere to avoid animals from reaching it.
  • Bring some snacks for those needing a supplement between meals.
  • Learn how to improvise: use disposable water bottles as dispensers for dressings and sauces, use the pots as mixing bowls, use a rope through your paper towel tube to hang it on a reachable branch and so on.
  • Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and drinks!
